Full description
Who this is for: Herb Ripper owners using a vaporiser who find the standard grind too fine.
The screen plate is the perforated metal disc inside a grinder. Ground material has to pass through its holes, so the size of those holes sets how fine the grind ends up.
Grind size matters to a vaporiser. A vaporiser works by pulling hot air through the material; packed too finely the material compresses into a plug and the air goes round the edge rather than through it, so the middle never heats. A coarser, looser grind lets the air through.
Changing the plate changes the grinder rather than replacing it. The Classic grinders ship with the medium plate already fitted and it is meant to be swapped: take it apart, press the old plate out, press this one in, and change back whenever you want the finer grind again.
On the material: our supplier specifies 316L stainless steel, which is more specific than the usual “medical grade”. The “L” is the low-carbon version, and the 316 family contains molybdenum — both are there to resist corrosion, so it resists pitting where it is repeatedly wetted and cleaned.
⚠️ Before ordering, look at the top of your grinder. Herb Ripper say: “This plate is only compatible with the new SS Classic Herb Ripper grinder that has the HR logo on the top.” Herb Ripper date the HR-logo grinders themselves — “sold after September 2023” on their storage-cap pages and “Purchased October 2023 – Present” on their kit pages — and our supplier says the same (“manufactured after September 2023”). The older grinders are out. ⚠️ And Herb Ripper's own page does not agree with itself: its compatibility line reads “The Ripper Classic 2″ Grinder or The Ripper XL 2.5″ Grinder”, while its note restricts this plate to the SS Classic.
