Who this is for: Herb Ripper XL owners who want a finer, more even grind than the standard plate gives.
The screen plate is the perforated disc inside the grinder, and its hole size decides how fine the grind is. This one has smaller holes than the plate fitted as standard.
Herb Ripper say the fine plate “is really geared towards some vapes”; our supplier names conduction devices, which heat the material by contact with a hot chamber wall. The trade-off is that fine material packs down, so it can restrict the draw — which is why Herb Ripper also make a coarse plate, and you can swap between the two.
Which you want depends on your device and how it heats. Your device's own manual is the one that applies.
On the material: our supplier specifies 316L stainless steel, which is more specific than the usual “medical grade”. The “L” is the low-carbon version, and the 316 family contains molybdenum — both are there to resist corrosion, so it resists pitting where it is repeatedly wetted and cleaned.
