  • 2.5 inches across — the XL size

  • Three parts means no screen and no collection chamber

  • Magnetic lid — Herb Ripper give the pull as 9.2 pounds; machined in Cincinnati, USA

  • Works with any device — a grinder is not device-specific

Full description

Who this is for: someone grinding a decent amount at a time who does not want a sorting chamber to empty.

Three parts is lid, teeth and a chamber. You grind, you turn it over, you tip it out. There is no mesh screen, so nothing is separated out and nothing is left behind in a compartment you forget about. Fewer parts also means less to clean, which is the real day-to-day difference.

The XL size is the point of this one. A bigger bowl means more per grind, so you prepare less often.

Steel is what makes it expensive. It does not gall at the threads and the teeth keep their edge. Herb Ripper give the weight as .99 lbs (about 450 g), so it is a kitchen-table grinder rather than a pocket one.

On the material: Herb Ripper's own wording is “100% medical grade stainless steel”. Herb Ripper give no grade number on any page we have read (product pages, FAQ, team page; 23 Sept and 3 Oct). The phrase describes the metal. It does not make the grinder a medical device.
