Who this is for: this is the first one to look at if hands are the problem — grip, tremor, arthritis, or anything that makes small fiddly jobs hard.

Three things here work together.

The cartridge drops in and holds magnetically. On most 510 batteries the cartridge has to be threaded in by hand, which is the fiddliest two-handed job on the whole device and the commonest way a connection gets damaged by over-tightening. Here there is nothing to screw. Two adapters come in the box, so one can live on a spare cartridge.

The temperature is set by a slide switch marked L, M and H. You move it and look at it. There is no clicking a button three times and then working out what colour the light has gone.

And there is something to hold. The body has deep diagonal ridging rather than being a smooth metal tube, and it is built to survive being dropped, which the thin pen-style batteries are not.

A window down the side shows the oil level, and the cartridge sits down inside the case rather than sticking out of the top, so it is protected while you carry it.

The cell is 400mAh — smaller than some here — and CCELL rate it for up to 500 charges. The USB-C cable is included, which is not true of every battery we stock.

In the box

  • 1x Sandwave device
  • 1x USB-C Charging Cable
  • 2x Magnetic connector
  • 1x Manual & Warranty Card
