The slide switch is the other good idea here. The three voltages are chosen by moving a switch on the bottom, not by clicking a button a set number of times. You can see where it is and you can feel where it is. 2.4V is the gentlest and 3.2V the strongest.
The cartridge drops into a slot in the body rather than screwing onto the end. On a pen-style battery the cartridge sticks out and is the part that gets snapped in a bag; here it sits inside the case.
